What drives the price of a stone worktop in the UK, why online per-metre figures mislead, and how to get an accurate quote first time.
You'll see “from £X per metre” everywhere online, and it's rarely what you'll pay. A worktop price depends on the material and specific design you choose, the total area, how many separate pieces and joins are involved, the number of cut-outs for sinks and hobs, the edge profile, and any upstands or splashbacks. Two kitchens the same size can price very differently.
Premium and exotic materials cost more than standard ranges. Islands and peninsulas add area. Lots of corners mean more joins and more labour. Cut-outs for undermounted sinks, drainer grooves and hob cut-outs all add fabrication time. Detailed edge profiles cost more than a standard polished edge. None of this is hidden — it's just why a flat per-metre figure can't be accurate.
A proper quote should cover templating, fabrication, delivery and fitting as one price, with no surprises on the day. Because we fabricate in our own Sheffield workshop and fit with our own team, there's no third-party mark-up between the slab and your kitchen.
